Samsung 1.5TB Hard Disk

As the name suggests, the hard disk drive is a bundle green features plus is highly energy-efficient and delivers high performance with numerous power saving technologies embedded into it. What lends it the capability of being of power efficient is the support to 1.5 TB with 3 disks.

“Lower platter count means less power to start the motor, less power to continuously spin the motor and a lighter head-stack which takes less power to seek,” said Andy Higginbotham, director of HDD sales and marketing for the Samsung Semiconductor Storage Division. “With fewer heads and disks, the F2EG hard drive has a lower probability of head-disk failures, enabling customers to build more reliable systems.”

The drive employs in it EcoTriangle technology for low-power consumption, low-heat and low-noise operation. Boasting of technology like this and limited number of components, the disk claims to consume 40 percent less power in idle mode and 45 percent less when in reading/writing mode in comparison to other drives of the same capacity.

The key highlight of the product, Samsung’s very own EcoTriangle technology, ensures energy efficiency and high performance, targeting the drive towards manufacturers of home media PC, external HDD, set-top box and personal NAS.

Other highlights of the F2EG are compliance to European Unions’s RoHS (Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations) and compliance to many other environmental regulations.

Apt for both external hard disks and desktop PCs, the Samsung EcoGreen F2EG is also available in the capacities of 500 GB and 1 TB. Its technical specifications are 16 MB/32 MB buffer memory and 3 GBps SATA interface. It also has the PMR technology that equips it with greater aerial density and enhanced transfer performance.

The 1.5 TB Samsung EcoGreen F2EG HDD is available for OEM businesses at present for MSRP of $149.
